Answer: In some cases Explanation: While it IS possible to wallpaper over existing wallpaper, it would really never be recommended. Removing the existing wallpaper is generally easy and can be done by the homeowner. Washing and prepping the wall underneath will give the new wallpaper the best appearance and longest life. |

Answer: Never Explanation: I would not advise papering over existing wallpaper. There may not be proper adhesion and the surface will not provide a nice smooth base for good results. It's best to properly prepare, so you don't throw away time and money in having to re-do a job. |

Answer: In some cases Explanation: It is possible to do this, but not recommended. If you want to do it, you must make sure the underlying paper is all laying flat before you paper over it. You can get some special adhesive for this, and a small roller, to press the seam down and squeeze out the extra paste, then wipe it off.
The more layers of paper there are, the harder it is to get all of it off if you want to paint it later. Painting over paper is really bad, because you can't easily get through the paint layer to steam off the paper. |

Answer: In some cases Explanation: While it is always best to remove the existing wallpaper before installing new, it is sometimes possible to paper over the old installation. Most vinyl wall coverings cannot be papered over and must be removed. If the old wall covering is true paper and it is in good shape you may be able to paper over it. The key is in the porosity of the old surface. The glue needs a porous surface in order to adhere. |
